Josh is an artist working primarily with ceramics. He has a studio at Wobage Workshops, Herefordshire where his functional and vessel-based work is represented by their gallery. Below is Josh's entry to our 100:Postcards project 27
When I was 14, I wrote a letter to my older self with the plan of finding it later on in life. It told me that I would be very proud of my later self if I became a sound engineer, but even more proud if I actually became an artist. I gave my older self tips on how to get back into art, should I have left it behind with my youth. I found this letter when I was packing up to become a student at UWIC, Cardiff, where I was to study ceramics for three years. I had just come out of a three year apprenticeship in traditional pottery, and was looking forward to releasing my creative charge. It was great to hear from my younger self, and to see so much of myself in him, 8 years later. At one point in my degree, I reflected loosely on this experience, and these 27 photographs are part of a broad reflection on the subject of youth and the fabrication of a poorly remembered childhood. It is like an abstract posting-back to my younger self. It is also a snippet of my degree, which is now a part of my past as well. It is a postcard of a postcard, if you like. The 27 photos (including stand) are available for £27, or a swap will be considered for 27 different photographs/postcards from the interested party's own collection. |
